Week 5: Start'em Sit'em Quarterbacks

Updated: Oct 6, 2019

For this weeks start'em or sit'em I will be going through my favorite plays in week 5 and some players I think you should avoid. I'll be excluding the obvious such as Mahomes or McCaffrey.

Note: This is for full PPR scoring

Quarterbacks:

Start'em:

Start of the Week: Andy Dalton vs. Arizona Cardinals

While last Monday Night may have been extremely ugly for Dalton and his Bengals, expect him to bounce back this week. Dalton has a 1 PM game at Paul Brown Stadium welcoming the Cardinals to town. We all know the difference between primetime Dalton and 1 PM Sunday Dalton. This week he gets to face the 4th worst scoring defense and the defense giving up the 2nd most YPG in the league. I fully expect this game to be a shootout which leads to my next start.

Kyler Murray @ Cincinnati Bengals

The 1st overall pick in last years draft has gotten off to a solid start to his career. This week he gets to take on the Bengals defense who are a bottom 10 ranked defense in PPG and YPG. As I said before, I could see this game turning into a shootout. Murray does have one of his favorite weapons, Christian Kirk, likely to be out for this game but I expect Murray to pick up plenty of points on the ground. The Bengals linebackers have been dreadful this year and I don't expect it to change here, I expect Kyler Murray to truly show his athleticism this weekend against the Bengals.

Tom Brady @ Washington Redskins

Brady and the Patriots head to Washington this week to take on the Redskins. This game, put simply, will be an absolute slaughter. The Redskins still don't even know who they will start at QB, but either way Keenum or Haskins will likely be dominated by the top defense in the league of the Patriots. I expect this game to be similar to the Patriots vs. Dolphins game where Tom Brady will be on the field the whole game and the Pats will run up the score. The Redskins give up the second most PPG out of any team thus far, and the Patriots will show everyone in the league once again why they're the top dog.

Other starts:

Carson Wentz vs. New York Jets

Kirk Cousins @ New York Giants

Chase Daniel @ Oakland Raiders (in London)

Sit'em:

Sit of the Week: Baker Mayfield @ San Francisco 49ers

Coming into this year, the expectations were huge for the Browns. So far however, they've been a let down. Baker hasn't looked like he did in his rookie season. He hasn't been getting his throws off quick enough and has been getting pressured much more than last year. Now Baker and the Browns head to San Fran for a Monday Night matchup against one of the leagues top defenses. The 49ers rank top 10 in PPG and YPG and our giving up less than 15 points on average to opposing QBs. I would stay away from Baker this week and in the future until he can prove that he's back.

Daniel Jones vs. Minnesota Vikings

I expect Danny Dimes hot start in the NFL to come to an end here against Minnesota. Minnesota has been tough against the pass this year coming into the week with a top 10 pass defense. Minnesota's offense has struggled of late but I expect them to get back on track here in the Big Apple. The Giants will be without Saquon and I expect there offense to struggle against the Vikings, Danny Dimes lack of experience will show in this game.

Derek Carr vs. Chicago Bears (in London)

This one should be pretty self explanatory. This is Khalil Mack's revenge game against the Raiders and I fully expect the Bears Defense to dominate this game and wreak havoc on the Raiders.

Busts:

Aaron Rodgers @ Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott vs. Green Bay Packers

I could see this game being a shootout with both teams being tough against the pass. With Davante Adams out I expect Rodgers to struggle, and Green Bay's pass defense has been very tough this year. Dak and A-Rod are huge boom or busts players for this week.
