NFL Week 5 Recap

Week 5 was one of the craziest weeks of fantasy I've ever witnessed. This week showed extreme highs and lows for players across the league. There were numerous players scoring 50+ points while there were also many that were held to none at all. To put this into perspective, lets compare these four lineups.

Lineup 1 (Players of the week):

QB- Deshaun Watson 41.70 points

RB- Christian McCaffrey 47.70

RB- Aaron Jones 49.90

WR- Will Fuller 53.70

WR- Michael Thomas 41.20 TE- Gerald Everett 20.60

Flex- Amari Cooper 39.60

K- Justin Tucker 16.00

Defense- Eagles 35.00

Total Score: 345.40 !!!

Lineup 2 (Busts):

QB- Baker Mayfield -2.00 points

RB- LeSean McCoy 2.30

RB- Wayne Gallman 1.40

WR- Mike Evans 0

WR- Sammy Watkins 0 TE- Greg Olsen 0

Flex- Emmanuel Sanders 1.90

K- Sam Ficken 0

Defense- Jaguars 1.00

Total Score: 4.60

Lineup 3 (Star Players, rough week):

QB- Aaron Rodgers 9.42 points

RB- Alvin Kamara 16.92

RB- Ezekiel Elliott 17.19

WR- Keenan Allen 5.80

WR- Julio Jones 7.20 TE- Travis Kelce 11.00

Flex- Odell Beckham Jr. 5.00

K- Will Lutz 7.00

Defense- Bears 3.00

Total Score: 82.53

Lineup 4 (sleepers):

QB- Teddy Bridgewater 27.30 points

RB- Matt Breida 27.90

RB- Josh Jacobs 29.30

WR- DJ Chark Jr. 36.40

WR- Michael Gallup 24.30

TE- Darren Fells 16.00

Flex-Byron Pringle 22.30

K- Dan Bailey 16.00

Defense- 49ers 19.00

Total Score: 218.5 !

Lets compare some of these lineups. First, the odds that any lineup puts up over 200 in a single week is very rare. Now how about a lineup combining for 345!!? Now taking a look at lineup 2, this really isn't that unreasonable of a team in 12-14 team leagues, and for it to to not even break 5 points is mind-boggling. Before the week I would've confidently bet every player in that lineup scored more than 5 points themselves. Lineup 3 on the other hand consists of first and second round picks for the most part, and they couldn't even break 100. I would've bet just about anything that Keenan Allen and Julio Jones combined for a minimum of 30-40 points going into the week, and they only combined for 13 points. Looking at lineup 4, you very easily could've picked up every one of these players on the waivers this season, and you're team would've won 99% of the time this week. This week really goes to show the craziness and unpredictability of fantasy football.

With all the craziness this week, lets look at some interesting/surprising facts from the season thus far:

1.) Christian McCaffrey is currently on pace to have the highest scoring fantasy season by a single player in history. He is currently on track, in PPR leagues, to exceed 500 points!

2.) Russell Wilson is the first QB in NFL history to throw for 1400+ yards, 12+ TDs, and no interceptions through his teams first 5 games.

3.) The Dallas Cowboys are leading the league in YPG with 452.8.

4.) Aaron Jones became the first player in history to run for 4 TDs against the Cowboys.

5.) Christian McCaffrey already has 866 yards from scrimmage.

6.) Shaq Barrett has sacked the QB more times this season (9) than the Bengals(6), Jets(6), Falcons (6), Broncos(5), or Dolphins(5) have as a team the entire year. Barrett was dropped by the Broncos this offseason.

7.) Cooper Kupp has amassed 100 receiving yards in each of his last four games.

8.) Austin Ekeler posted 15 catches on Sunday and ended up with the least amount of yards (86) out of anyone to ever get 15 receptions in one game.

9.) Patrick Mahomes was held to his lowest scoring effort (13) so far in his career. Expect the Chiefs vs. Texans to be a heck of a shootout.

10.) In PPR leagues, Austin Ekeler is still the second highest scoring back behind only Christian McCaffrey.

Looking forward, expect us to come out with some weekly rankings for week 6, a waiver wire article, potentially a trade value chart, and start 'em sit'em.
